Introductory Paragraph:
The Nile River is famous as the longest river in the world. The river got its name from a Greek word Neilos, which means valley. The Nile floods the lands of Egypt leaving behind black sediment. That's why the ancient egyptians named the river Ar meaning black. The Nile River is actually 4,184 miles long. This river flows through a total of 9 countries. The river played an extreme role in the civilization. It produced extremely fertile soil which made it easy for cities and civilizations to spring up along side the river. The water also provided a source of drinking water, and a source of irrigation for farming as well as papyrus reeds that could be used for a variety of purposes such as building materials.
